HERTSMI-2 Dust Testing in Charleston
Get laboratory findings you can understand—not a report you're left to decode.
HERTSMI-2 uses DNA-based analysis of collected dust to assess five selected molds. I offer this focused environmental test on its own or with indoor air quality testing. Every lab report comes with a post-test summary explaining the results.
If you are sensitized to indoor conditions, receiving cancer treatment, or living with an autoimmune disease or another underlying condition, you may have specific questions about your home. Bring any environmental testing instructions from your healthcare professional so we can discuss the requested scope before you book.
Dust testing versus air sampling

These methods provide different information; neither measures every mold or indoor pollutant. Environmental testing does not diagnose illness, establish the cause of symptoms, or certify a home as medically safe. Your healthcare professional handles medical interpretation.
Inspector and independence
Your inspector should explain the findings—not sell the cleanup
I handle your inspection and discuss the results with you directly. You can ask what was sampled, what the lab found, and what the findings mean for your property.
Because I do not perform remediation or repairs, a cleanup contract is not part of my recommendation. My job is to help you make an informed decision about the concern that brought you here.

Inspection decisions
The right testing starts with the right questions
A musty odor or previous leak
Where was the water? Was the source repaired? Has the odor returned? An inspection considers accessible areas and moisture readings before deciding whether samples would add useful information.
A home purchase or rental concern
Tell me what raised the concern and when you need answers. A specific question about a leak, room, or prior repair helps define a useful inspection scope.
An older home or renovation
Questions about building materials call for a different approach than questions about airborne mold. Explore asbestos testing, or ask about lead testing before selecting a service.
A property with different moisture conditions
A downtown Charleston renovation, an island condo with a past leak, and a Summerville home with recurring condensation should not automatically receive the same sampling plan. The building's history and the affected areas matter more than its ZIP code.

A mold inspection includes visual assessment and moisture measurements in relevant accessible areas. Agreed samples go to a laboratory for analysis.

Review the findings.
Your lab report includes a post-test summary. I'll explain the environmental findings so you understand the next steps.

Your lab report is released once your invoice is paid.
